Tahu Telor Bu Anton: The Ultimate Peanut-Sauce Comfort Food

After you’ve satisfied your noodle craving, it’s time to move on to a savory street dish that is truly unique to East Java: Tahu Telor (Tofu and Egg Omelet). And in Malang, no one does it quite like Tahu Telor Bu Anton near the Sukun area. This simple dish is elevated to perfection here, offering a textural and flavor explosion that is entirely satisfying. The base is a thick, fluffy omelet a delicious mixture of beaten egg and soft tofu that is fried until golden brown. This is then sliced and laid over a bed of fresh bean sprouts. For the carb base, you have a choice: you can stick to the traditional, chewy steamed rice cake (lontong) or opt for a plate of warm, comforting white rice (nasi) for an even heartier meal.

However, the real star of Bu Anton’s version is the peanut sauce. As you can see from the picture, the sauce is incredibly thick and generous, coating every element of the dish. It is a dense, deeply flavorful peanut paste that has a rich, pronounced peanut taste, making it robust and distinct from runnier versions found elsewhere. It strikes a beautiful balance between sweet, savory, and a hint of spice. The entire plate is then crowned with a huge serving of colorful, crispy rice crackers, or kerupuk, providing the necessary crunch to cut through the soft omelet and sticky sauce. This spot is perfect for a late dinner, as it opens from 4 PM until 1 AM, serving hungry locals late into the night.
